WHEN I GROW UP I WANT TO BE A REAL WRITER

Sorry I missed last week's post. I had a good reason. No! I'm not going to tell you! (Okay, I will.) My three-year-old got second and third degree burns on his fingers and I've been a little pre-occupied with doctor visits and bandages and cuddling. See, I told you it was a good reason.

So, I just found out my poem, Ladybug Friend, was published in the May 2009 issue of Kidzwonder Magazine. IN MAY. It's July right now. I know, I need to pay better attention to these kinds of things. Anyway, Yippee for another publication!

Also, last night I decided I wanted to be a REAL writer. You know, one of those people who drives to a mysterious place, like a library, or a bookstore, or a coffee shop, or McDonalds, and sets up their laptop and WRITES. And there aren't kids around. (Who said that?) So, when hubby got home from work, I borrowed his laptop and wrote at the library with no interruptions.

It. Was. Pure. Bliss. I could have stayed there for seven hours, except the librarians kicked me out after 45 minutes, since it was closing time.

I'm thinking I should make this a weekly thing.

When and where do you spend your writing time?

First CONGRATS on the recent pub! That's fantastic!

Also I envy you for escaping to the library to write. OH how I long to do that!! I love writing in my notebook at the library or in a cafe (starbucks or panera). For some reason when I write in those places I crank out so much more than when I write at home. There's inspiration in just sitting there among people reading and writing.

Glad to see your blog at the top of my blogroll. Hope everything will be okay with your little one!

Ouch. Hope your little one is doing better.

Good for you on the publication and for setting aside quality time for yourself!

As far as my poems go... the inspiration comes mostly in the middle of the night... when I had kids home they would be asleep. I learned early on not to go back to sleep until a rough draft was finished... or it may be lost.

Congrats on your publication!
I've gone to Starbucks a few times with the laptop and typed away for an hour and a half. I love it because at home there is always SOMETHING else that can be done or kids saying MOM! I hope you can find a few times a month to continue to do that! (I'm going to try too!)

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your little one's fingers. I hope they heal quickly. Poor baby!

Congratulations on your recent story being published too.

I just write at home, surrounded by kids and pets and wildlife. I guess that's where I get my inspiration, so it works for me.

I've always wanted to try that. But I've never been one to be "creative" around lots of people (except in art class, but those people were just as weird as me). I think I would feel conspicuous and awkward if I brought my laptop to a cafe or the library.

It's not just with writing that I have this problem. I've always fantasized about bringing my sketchbook to the zoo, but have never gotten up the nerve.

I hope your little boy is doing much better!

A huge congrats on your latest publication, which just goes to show you already ARE a real writer! :) However, I know what you mean. Grab those precious writing minutes where and when you can!
