I love sitting in the shade in the summer. Speaking of sitting . . . Does it do your manuscript good to let it sit for a while? To collect some dust? I recently took out a picture book manuscript I had put away over a year ago. I wrote the first draft six years ago (a badly rhymed piece) and someone in my crit group told me the rhyming made him so nauseous, he couldn't even finish reading the story. Ouch, but he was right.
The second draft was prose and had a cute little boy for the mc. Over the years, I revised and revised, had it critiqued, revised some more, etc. Finally, after five years of messing with it, I couldn't stand the thing and I put it away.
A few weeks ago I got it out and wa-la! My muse spoke loud and clear. The boy needs to be a pig. I couldn't type fast enough and I'm lovin' the new version.
Have you ever had that happen?

I've had that happen more than once! It's a good reason to never throw anything out.
No I wish.
I am not a gifted writer like you. ToOdLeS.
YES! Putting a MS away for awhile was probably the best advice I'd ever gotten. It's so tempting to send it out right away, but you'll see it differently later on.
LOL @ your MC needing to be a pig!
Yes. Letting it sit is a good thing! I can only write (only I write novels) when I get inspired and unfortunately, that doesn't happen very often. But I had an "AHA!" moment a few days ago and got a little writing in. Good to know I'm not the only one!
Pretty pedicure!
I once wrote a story for an online writing class when I first started writing for children a few years ago. I submitted it to magazines with no luck. I let it sit and looked at it a few months ago. Man, I totally revised it. I was a very green writer and learned so much since then. Now it will be in Stories for Children in the fall!
Oh, if its gets published, you'll have to share a nauseating verse form the original :)
